Halak Labs LLC ("we," "us," "our") operates the Bethany mobile application and website (joinbethany.com), collectively referred to as the "Service." This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.
By using Bethany, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Account information: name, email address, phone number, city, state, denomination, birth year
- Profile information: profile photo, username
- User-generated content: prayer requests, verse highlights, bookmarks, notes, group messages, event RSVPs
- Personalization preferences: onboarding quiz responses (faith goals, Bible reading frequency, interests)
- Communications: messages you send through groups, prayer requests you post, feedback you provide to us
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device information: device type, operating system, unique device identifiers
- Usage data: pages visited, features used, time spent in the app, daily active usage
- Log data: IP address, browser type, access times, referring URLs
- Location data: city-level location if you use the Faith Map feature (we do not track precise GPS location)
1.3 Information from Third Parties
- Google OAuth: if you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. We do not access your Google contacts, calendar, or other Google data.
- We do not purchase data from data brokers or third-party sources.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the Service, including account creation, prayer requests, Bible reading, and group features
- To personalize your experience based on your preferences and onboarding responses
- To send you daily verse notifications (if you opt in)
- To facilitate community features like prayer support, group messaging, and faith map interactions
- To track daily active usage for internal analytics (not sold to third parties)
- To improve the Service, fix bugs, and develop new features
- To communicate with you about Service updates, security alerts, and support
- To enforce our Terms of Service and protect against misuse
3. How We Share Your Information
We do NOT sell your personal information. We do NOT share your data with advertisers.
- With other Bethany users: prayer requests you post publicly are visible to other users. Anonymous requests hide your identity. Group messages are visible to group members. Verse highlights and notes are private by default.
- With service providers: we use Supabase for database hosting, Vercel for web hosting, and ImprovMX for email forwarding. These providers process data on our behalf under contractual obligations to protect your information.
- For legal compliance: we may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request.
- Business transfers: if Halak Labs is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Data Retention
- Active accounts: we retain your data for as long as your account is active.
- Deleted accounts: personal data deleted within 30 days of request.
- Prayer requests: active for 30 days. Answered prayers visible for 7 days, then archived.
- Group messages: retained for the group's lifetime.
- Encrypted backups: may retain deleted data for up to 90 days.
5. Data Security
- All data encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
- Row Level Security (RLS) on all database tables
- Passwords hashed using bcrypt
- Input sanitization on all user-submitted content
- API routes authenticated and rate-limited
- Security headers on all responses
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children's Privacy
Bethany is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately. Contact us at hello@halaklabs.com if you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information.
Users between 13 and 17 may use Bethany with parental or guardian consent.
7. Your Rights and Choices
- Access and Correction: Update your profile anytime through Settings.
- Deletion: Request account deletion by emailing hello@halaklabs.com. Processed within 30 days.
- Data Portability: Request a copy of your data by emailing hello@halaklabs.com.
- Opt-Out: Disable notifications through device settings or the app's Settings page.
- Do Not Track: We do not respond to DNT signals. We do not track users across third-party websites.
8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
California residents have the right to know what data we collect, request deletion, opt out of data sales (we do not sell data), and not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights. Email hello@halaklabs.com with subject "CCPA Request."
9. International Users
Bethany is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy and updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use constitutes acceptance.
